We show that the limit of the Itzykson-Zuber integral (that was proved to exist by Guionnet and Zeitouni, J. Funct. Anal. 188 (2002), pp.461-515), suitably rescaled in one of the parameters, converges towards a function of the second parameter that linearizes Voiculescu's free additive convolution. This generalizes recent results of Guionnet and Maida.
