James CruicKshank - A Geometric Approach to Equivariant Homotopy Theory

A classical result of Heinz Hopf classifies homotopy classes of maps from a manifold to a sphere of the same dimension according to their degree. If the sphere has dimension one less than that of the manifold, then the maps are classified by the Hopf invariant. It is (reasonably) natural to ask how these results might be generalized to an equivariant setting. In this talk we will discuss this problem and in particular the underlying geometric constructions.
