POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH SUPERVISION

My mathematical interests centre on Complex Analysis, especially Geometric Function Theory.  I have also worked on problems in Probability Theory from the point of view of complex analysis, especially in collaboration with Professor Rodrigo Bañuelos, Purdue University. I am interested in Financial Mathematics, especially volatility modelling.

I have been a lecturer in Mathematics at University College Cork since 1990 (aside from a leave of absence from 1993 to 1995, spent in Milan, Italy). I graduated from U.C.C. with a B.Sc. in 1983, and with an M.Sc. in 1984. From 1984 to 1988 I was a Ph.D. student first for one year at Imperial College, London, and then at The Open University, Milton Keynes, working under the direction of Professor Walter Hayman and Dr Phil Rippon. I was awarded a Ph.D. degree from The Open University in 1988. From 1988 to 1990 I was Research Assistant Professor at Purdue University.

I was a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the London Mathematical Society (Sept. 2000 to Dec. 2005), with responsibility for papers submitted to the Society in the area of Complex Analysis. A paper is assigned to one of the Bulletin, Journal or Proceedings according to its length, with the final decision on acceptance resting with the Honorary Editors of that journal.
